Bollywood, Please be ORIGINAL !!!

Plenty of hindi movies have lifted off their story line from major Hollywood flicks. I guess it started long back. Its not even the flicking Hollywood movies but remaking of good south Indian movies is also becoming a big time trend. But this conman is finally getting caught. Partner the latest hit from Bollywood is facing the jury. As everyone knows its almost a scene-to-scene rip-off from the Hollywood hit Hitch, starring Will Smith, Eva Mendes.
Partner(Eros Entertainment and K Sera Sera) is being taken to the court and sued for a whooping $30Mn suit, by Sony Entertainment and Overbrook Entertainment (Will Smith’s Production Company).Its not the first time Bollywood has lifted off a movie from Hollywood, but definitely its the first time its getting sued.
I have seen both the films and Partner, to be frank has been poorly done with exaggerated comedy. Hitch is one movie i love to watch again but definitely not Partner
What happened to the big creative geniuses that India has always been proud of? Are we having no more Satyajit Rays? Has creativity died here that we have to opt for plagiarism?
Its not just Movies that we steal, its even the songs too. Anu Malik to be crowned the king for doing so. I was surprised to see the news yesterday when Bappida came and claimed that Titanic theme was taken off from one of his 70’s movies. He allegation is that they changed two notes and made it as the theme. How lame can he get? Thats the best shot he has got up his sleeve? How about the hit theme songs from Murder, Criminal, Golmaal. Now what has he got to comment???
Its a shame upon us. We have the greatest audience after Hollywood and a large fan following all over the world. Our movies get noticed and are acclaimed all over.
If every other person starts suing our under-world run film industry, may be the so called under-world will go bankrupt and their trouble might stop. Thats the only blue streak i see in this whole humiliating news.

I guess we, as Indians should flare up @ the news of Hollywood suing Bollywood. They steal our Basmati n Yoga n stuff and patent them … and we can’t steal their entertainment? Point, huh?
But no. On the contrary, I’m quite satisfied now that this has happened. All these rip-off movies are a complete let-down. To give just one example – take Harry Baweja movies. Qayamat was blunt copy of ‘The Rock’ – the Nicolas Cage movie. Next is the upcoming ‘Speed’. 1st of all, the name itself is copied. But the movie is not copy of Reevs’ movie ‘Speed’. Rather it is frame to frame copy of ‘Cellular’. I didn’t read this in some news. The trailer itself is shouting from the roof-tops “I’m plagiarized”.

I think who cares if the movie has been copied and the end of the day what matters is which ones better and I think Partner is 10 times better then Hitch and I totally disagree with the following comment in the article “poorly done with exaggerated comedy”. It is extreamly well done with songs and comedy. I am hoping partner produces do not get sued and Hollywood just had to take the fact that Bollywood makes certain better movies and is the master in making love movies as almost is love based.

dhoom is lifted from a french movie called TAXI,,(a fucking scene to scene and what we film makers call as rhythm to rhythm shot composition rip off)
action flicks in krish,don(jackiechan),dhoom2(taxi again and mi2), and many more are copied from hollywood movies,,,
even maniratnam is doing his ways ,,,,,,, yuva is a feel from amores perros,, but wonderfull reconstruction, hindi n tamil well they are the same, wont blame him… no offense,
this new guy called murugadoss from southz gonna enter thr with his gajini which is actually “momento” a great movie by d foreigners,, lols,,, done by surya in d south it was a blockbuster, tamil and telugu(dubbed) ,,,, now its done by aamir,,,,,good luck with that,,

@David, you point just revolves round the fact of mere entertainment and has nothing to do with the creativity or the originality that was put in by the makers. This is quite serious as it impairs original works.
Partner may be a good comedy compared to Hitch. But you forgot the baseline. Who’s bright idea was the story? Plagiarism never helps in the long run. You may get a hit or two in the beginning, but as the industry grows and wider audiences are reached, it will back fire. People will find the lack of originality and will move away. We need to think on a broader spectrum and just think beyond immediate fame and glam.
@Rk – Buddy you made a point, and ended up giving and exhaustive list off all the rip-offs. Before you sit on your couch and settle in with you beer, just think of the Bollywood originals and what a far reaching audience we have. Though Hollywood claims 95% of the world market in cinema revenues, Bollywood has the largest audience and its still counting.
RK enjoy the movies like – Guru, Chak De India, Iqbal, Eklavya etc.

jerry ,,,, yeah ofcourse i enjoy the originals in bollywood,, guru chakde iqbal , they are superb,, i love em,, its not the usual day always walkin into a theater and watching an original movie,, thats what i posted above,,,, am not making fun of bollywood,,, ofcourse it makes original movies but the ratio seems to be inverse kinda,,,

i went to the theaters and watched dhoom,,,,, enjoyed it ,,,, (note that am tamil,,, am not hindi,,, am tamil,,,) then i started boastin to my friends tat its the best movie ever made n all,,,,
one day i got to watch TAXI a frech movie i guess,,, or its german,, i dont know,,,,, i went so down tat day,,(we know its d original) the movie tat u like d most s copied from somewhr,,,,, then while chatting with friends,,, a guy in my group went like “hey rocky,,wats ur fav movie” and another guy went like”ya its dhoom, he likes dhoom like hell” and it killd me, i said no no thats not my fav movie anymore,,,,,

no offense to u i love the originals,, they are the best,,but i just dont want to get more days like walkin into a theater and watching “hey baby” which actually is some movie(three men and a baby) i saw on SONY PIX some good day,,,, got me pal???
